In St Anthony's Nursery we aim to provide an environment that is stimulating, warm and caring in which children, through planned play and structured activities, can develop into confident individuals with a thirst for knowledge.
In 2010 St Anthony's received a Capital Grant which has enabled us to enhance the provision for our Nursery and Reception Classes.
The
children now have their own indoor and outdoor play area with raised beds for planting and growing their own fruit and vegetables as well as a
minibeast area.
Children in the Nursery are included in the activities of the main school, attending assemblies and spending time with the Reception Class, thus enabling a smooth transition when the time comes. They visit the local library each week and enjoy time choosing new books for the classroom and hearing stories being read.
From September 2008 the Foundation Stage Curriculum has been replaced by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), framework which covers chidren from birth to five years of age.
The EYFS is based on principles of inclusion, which means that early-years providers oppose discrimination and prejudice and welcome all families and children. We provide care and education for a wide range of children in environments that enable children to feel safe and supported and which extend their learning and development.
The EYFS is made up of six areas of Learning and Development. All these areas are connected to one another and are equally important. The six areas of Learning and Development are:
- Creative Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
